What is an EAN?
EAN stands for International Article Number, originally European Article Number. It is the 13-digit barcode printed on products in most of the world outside the United States, issued through GS1 just like the UPC. In the GTIN family it is the GTIN-13. Small packages use the shorter EAN-8. If a supplier outside the US quotes you a 13-digit code, it is an EAN.

What is an EAN number?

Is an EAN the same as a GTIN?
An EAN is one type of GTIN. GTIN is the family name: GTIN-13 is the EAN, GTIN-12 is the UPC, and GTIN-8 is the short EAN-8. If a form asks for a GTIN, your EAN is a valid answer.
How do I convert an EAN to a UPC?
If the EAN starts with a zero, remove it and the remaining 12 digits are the UPC. Our lookup does the cross-reference automatically, every EAN result shows the matching UPC when one exists.
Can I use an EAN on Amazon?
